About The Long Road Project

The Long Road Project is a partnership between Staffordshire University, The Potteries Museum and Art gallery, and AirSpace Gallery, Stoke-on-Trent.

It involves 15 students from Fine Art, Animation, Music Technology and Photography working on an exciting project responding to a Tate ‘Artist’s Rooms’ Touring exhibition of the work of esteemed artist Richard Long, which is coming to the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery in November 2013.

Staff and students from the 4 subject areas will work together on a project which responds to the work of the important land artist Richard Long. We are also excited to be working with a leading artist, Tim Knowles, whose work often involves the landscape and walking practices.

In Short: Staff and students will embark on a 3 day retreat in the nearby Peak District, where the landscape will be explored and where we will work on making site responsive art works, whilst learning about Long’s methods.

The works created will be carefully and thoroughly documented, and then there will be a chance for students to consider how site-responsive works translate into an exhibition context. The exhibition at The Potteries Museum and Art gallery will form the basis of this, and the students will then work together to put on an exhibition alongside the Richard Long show in the Potteries Museum.

The student's work will be on show from February 1st to March 16th 2014.
